We've read all about Snape's unwavering love for Lily, even after her death, but the question still remains - did Lily ever love him back, and how did Snape effect her relationship with James?

Yeah, obviously Snape loved her, but I really think Lily just saw him as a friend, and then not even as a friend. He liked her, she could tell, but she wanted to just be friends, which he couldn't. He was too possessive of her - it was almost unhealthy the way he treated her, which might've been something adopted subconsciously from his parents and their relationship. I think a big reason he hated James wasn't just because he got picked on by him, but because of his feelings for Lily. I'm a bit conflicted on this next part though - a piece of me thinks maybe that Lily just took to James to bother Sev, but then found herself in love with him ? Hmm, not sure. I guess only JK will ever know!

I wouldn't say that Lily loved him back, but I think they had a fairly strong bond, especially at first. In school they were in two different worlds, but I think she understood him the best of anyone, having met him before school.

I think deep down she loved him, definitely. But she loved him but not what he did, which eventually came to define him. If that makes any sense!! That's what I think

I kind of get the idea that Lily was more interested in learning how to be a proper wizard than in being in a relationship. I think she always saw Snape as a friend. But by the time she was ready to be with anyone, Snape had gone over to the dark side (I hear they have good cookies :-P). This gave James time to grow up. And no, I don't think Snape had any impact on Lily's relationship with James. I think by the time they were in their seventh year, Lily was able to separate her feelings between Snape and James and friendship and like and hate.
I don't think Lily ever thought of Snape in that way. I think she always considered him a good friend. But I kind of get the idea she was more interested in learning how to be a proper wizard then in actually being with anyone.
